World Markets, Crude & Gold Prices

Global Equities

Global markets traded with a mixed and cautious tone on Thursday, 1 October 2026, as a renewed sell-off in global bond markets offset strength in technology stocks. Asian tech shares received support from strong earnings from Micron Technology, while rising government bond yields kept broader risk sentiment under pressure.

The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield climbed to around 5.34%, its highest level since 2002, keeping borrowing-cost and valuation concerns firmly in focus. Softer-than-expected U.S. inflation reduced expectations for an immediate Federal Reserve rate hike, but investors remained cautious ahead of U.S. employment data.

Market participants remained focused on:

  • Movements in crude oil and precious metals
  • U.S.-Iran negotiations and Strait of Hormuz developments
  • Federal Reserve interest-rate expectations
  • Elevated U.S. Treasury yields
  • U.S. dollar movement
  • Upcoming U.S. employment data
  • Middle East geopolitical developments
  • Global inflation and economic growth outlook

Overall, global markets maintained a cautious tone, with resilience in technology shares being offset by continued pressure from sharply elevated bond yields and geopolitical uncertainty.

Crude Oil

Brent crude traded at $104.377 per barrel, up $2.623 or 2.58%, according to the latest market snapshot.

Crude oil prices moved sharply higher on Thursday, with Brent trading above the $104-per-barrel level as geopolitical uncertainty and concerns around Middle East supply routes continued to influence the market.

Oil remains highly sensitive to developments surrounding U.S.-Iran diplomacy and flows through the Strait of Hormuz. Recent recovery in Gulf exports has helped ease some supply concerns, but the market continues to price in the risk of renewed disruption to regional energy infrastructure and shipping.

The movement in crude prices continues to impact expectations around:

  • Global inflation outlook
  • Import costs for oil-dependent economies
  • Current account deficits
  • Transportation and logistics expenses
  • Aviation, paint and chemical industries
  • Energy sector profitability

Oil prices will continue to remain sensitive to:

  • U.S.-Iran negotiations
  • Strait of Hormuz developments
  • Middle East geopolitical tensions
  • Saudi and Gulf crude exports
  • OPEC+ production decisions
  • Global crude inventory data
  • Supply-side disruptions
  • Global demand conditions

Despite improving Gulf supply flows in recent sessions, crude remains a key source of global market volatility, particularly as energy prices feed into inflation expectations and bond-market concerns.

Gold Prices

Gold traded at $4,172.70 per ounce, up $15.02 or 0.36%, according to the latest market snapshot.

Gold prices traded higher on Thursday, hovering around the $4,170-per-ounce level as softer U.S. inflation data provided support to the precious metal.

The latest inflation reading reduced expectations of an immediate Federal Reserve rate hike, supporting gold. However, gains remained constrained by sharply elevated U.S. Treasury yields and a firm U.S. dollar, both of which can reduce the relative appeal of non-yielding assets.

Gold prices continue to be influenced by:

  • Federal Reserve monetary policy expectations
  • U.S. Treasury yield movements
  • U.S. dollar strength
  • Inflation expectations
  • Geopolitical uncertainty
  • Safe-haven demand
  • Central bank buying trends
  • Global economic conditions

Gold prices will continue to track:

  • U.S. employment data
  • Federal Reserve policy commentary
  • Bond market movements
  • Dollar index trends
  • Inflation data
  • Global risk appetite
  • Geopolitical developments
  • Central bank reserve activity

With U.S. Treasury yields near multi-decade highs but inflation coming in softer than expected, gold is currently being pulled between support from reduced rate-hike expectations and pressure from high bond yields and a strong dollar.
