Stocks That Stole the Spotlight
While the broader market indices remained subdued after a volatile session, several stocks across sectors saw massive trading volumes.
Let’s dive into some of the biggest movers:
Real Estate Stocks Shine!
The real estate sector cheered after the government exempted income up to ₹12 lakh from taxation, giving homebuyers and developers a major boost. This triggered a rally in real estate stocks like Prestige Estate, Phoenix Mills, Macrotech Developers, Sobha, Anant Raj, and DLF, among others.
Infra Stocks Plunge!
IRB Infra recorded 97 million shares in trading volume but took a 3% hit right after the government kept highway capital expenditure unchanged in the budget. This decision dampened investor sentiment in the sector.
A similar trend was observed in other road construction stocks such as NCC, PNC Infratech, Dilip Buildcon, Larsen & Toubro, etc.
EasyMyTrip shares soared over 6% intraday, recording 106 million shares in trading volume. This rally was fuelled by the budget’s focus on boosting tourism. The Finance Minister announced plans to develop the top 50 tourist destinations in partnership with state governments, reinforcing tourism as a key employment driver.
Food delivery giant Zomato saw 92 million shares traded, with the stock rallying over 7%. One of the key drivers? The government raised the tax exemption limit to ₹12 lakh under the new tax regime, which is expected to boost consumer spending and positively impact the retail and food service industries.
Agri Stocks Move Higher!
Agri stocks saw strong gains as the Finance Minister announced measures to enhance agriculture infrastructure, crop productivity, and credit support to farmers in the Union Budget 2025-26.
Shares of agri-related companies like Kaveri Seeds, Jain Irrigation Systems, and Dhanuka Agritech surged up to 9% intraday. Fertilizer stocks, including FACT, Chambal Fertilisers, Deepak Fertilisers, and GSFC, also gained around 4%.
